It was a historic day for India at the Paris 2024 Olympics on August 2. After some unexpected exits day, the Indian contingent bounced back successfully on Day 7.
Lakshya Sen loses the first game to Taiwan’s Chou Tien Chen before winning the next two; the 22-year-old becomes the first Indian male shuttler to enter the last four.
Meanwhile, Ankita Bhakat and Dhiraj Bommadevara clinched India’s best archery finish at the Summer Games. Notably, Bhakat and Bommadevara were the first Indian archers to qualify for the Olympic semifinals. However, the duo lost the match and so failed to place on the bronze medal podium.
Manu Bhaker and the Indian men’s hockey team also added to the record. In the men’s hockey Pool B match, India defeated Australia, their first Olympic triumph over the Kookaburras in 52 years.Parul Chaudhary (women’s 5000m) and Tajinderpal Singh Toor (men’s shot put) did not advance to the athletics finals.Day 7 saw Indian competitors compete in judo, golf, rowing, and sailing.
