District authorities in Kerala’s landslide-struck Wayanad on July 31 started collecting data to determine the number of people missing following the massive tragedy, as rescue operations resumed to trace persons suspected to be trapped. Helicopters will be used to airlift injured persons from the affected areas.?

The death toll in the landslides that affected Chooral Mala and Mundakkai areas near Meppadi in Wayanad district of Kerala crossed 200. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said 1,592 people were rescued from the landslide-affected sites in two days and admitted to several hospitals. He said 8,000 persons had been shifted to 82 relief camps in Wayanad district. As many as 1,167 rescue workers were involved in the search operations. As many as 99 people are in treatment and others were sent to various relief camps. According to the district administration, 96 bodies were identified and post-mortems of 166 were completed.?

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced an ex gratia payment of ?2 lakh for the next of kin of the deceased and ?50,000 as compensation for the injured. Union Minister Nityanand Rai in Rajya Sabha said ?145 crore was disbursed for Kerala from the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF).?
